Welcome to our new and improved web site. My son, Nick, has been the main inspiration behind this project spending countless hours in making our new site interesting, informative and most of all offering the opportunity for our clients to communicate in our community blog. My daughter, Sabrina helped with some of the photo layouts and my trusted assistant, Denise with the all important proof reading. Thank you all for your participation. I will be turning 60 this coming fall and as many of my fellow baby boomers realize – life has certainly changed when it comes to communication and I for one welcome it. I look forward to hearing from you and sharing hunting, fishing and adventure stories. And now let’s begin! High Success Muskox Hunt in Arctic Quebec
I recently returned from a great hunting experience with good friend John Yeager of Evans City, PA. John is one of those guys that always has fun wherever he goes and just a great easy going fellow to be with – the ideal partner on an Arctic hunt. We traveled to Kuujjuaq and met up with my partner, Allen Gordon. We arrived in Kuujjuaq Tuesday March 10. Weather was great and the long range forecast looked terrible so we decided to leave immediately for a camp that Allen secured approximately an hour’s snowmobile ride north of the village. We quickly unpacked and set-up camp and with light still available decided to go out and take a look. We came across over 20 Muskox within an hour’s ride from camp. With darkness fast approaching we got back to a warm camp, had supper and spent a good part of the night listening to John snoring – boy was he relaxed after a good day out in the cold but well dressed. The next morning with threatening skies we proceeded northbound in the same general directions that we traveled the previous day and immediately got into Muskox. Out of a herd of 15 animals with 3 excellent bulls – John took the best of the bunch and was all done by noon on day one of our hunt. After taking pictures and having lunch we proceeded back to camp not before seeing a nice big bull on a ridge with his group of 12 animals. A short walk up the hill with Allen - had me sighted in to a very good bull well clear of his group and took my first Muskox at about 3:00 PM. Picture taking and more snacks had us back at camp packing as we could see the weather changing quickly from the east – yes it was time to head back to town before the winds and whiteout hit us. We got back into town by 6:00 PM to a hot meal, great shower and an evening of celebration. It is a hunt that I will long remember – a hunt that everyone should do once in their life. By the way, this was John’s second Muskox. John had taken a Muskox in NWT about five years ago but he was looking for a bigger one. From his inquiry of what will be happening on tag availability for the future – I get the strong impression that John might not be completely over with the Muskox. Important Notice: Looks like a limited number of tags will be made available for the upcoming 2010 season. I am hoping to secure at least 2 tags and maybe more if I can. Anyone interested in joining us in the land of the giant Muskox – contact me and I will forward you details. I will be working on a first come first served priority list for any possible tags for the upcoming 2010 Muskox season. I’m off for the coast of Labrador on my yearly adventure snowmobile trip and plan to be back in town in 10 days or so depending on weather. Going to meet up with some of my guides to explore fish and hunt. I’m getting older and need to do what I can now and not wait till later. The word later should not be in anyone’s dictionary particularly people at my age – life is fragile and you must enjoy life while you are capable to do so! |
