Weather finally changing for the better with a lot more sunny skies lately. Camps just about ready with some final touches to do and bringing in the groceries before our first caribou hunters show up this coming Wednesday. So far things are looking real good with reports from our North Camp seeing a good many caribou coming in from the North and heading South-East – should be arriving at our other camps latter this week. Going up with the plane tomorrow morning to get a better look and see what they are up to. Peter Wellman, our manager at North Camp reported seeing a good number of big bulls among the herd traveling relatively slow which is great – don’t really want them to move too quickly through our area.

A good number of bears spotted during past couple of weeks with some camp damage but nothing too serious. Looks like we will have another great year with the ptarmigan – we are seeing quite a few birds – just starting to change colors. The Arctic Char are running up the rivers and the brook trout are now in full color.

Salmon running well on the George River and should continue till the end of the month. I will be heading out to the Salmon Camp this weekend with the wife for a few days of fishing.

All is well in Kuujjuaq – will let you all know what develops during the coming week.

All the best from the North Country,

 Sammy Cantafio
