It’s been an unbelievable season so far and I must say I haven’t seen caribou hunting this good in a long time. Everyone tagged out early this past week and the boys are taking it easy and enjoying some great fishing and bird hunting except for John Bess of South Jordan, UT and Jane Jensen of Riverton, UT both adding each a nice big Arctic Black Bear to their hunt – I guess this will be a trip they will not soon forget! We have been seeing more and more black bear in recent years.
With most of the caribou located in the North Ungava Region for most of this past season we have been seeing a number of our less honorable southern competitors scrambling north trying to help fill tags for their guests anyway they can even if it means illegally flying and chasing game with helicopters and planes. An ALL PAINTED RED BEAVER FLOATPLANE from a southern operator was recently caught with guide, hunters and dead caribou by the game wardens from the Kuujjuaq office after our guides spotted a low flying aircraft hunting on one of our designated territories. I would suspect all will be getting stiff fines!
This brings me to the fact that not all outfitters are equal and I still meet guests coming up to join us on their 2nd or 3rd attempt to hunt caribou after spending upwards of $10,000 plus with other outfitters on previous so called bargain caribou hunts and not even seeing one caribou. This is highway robbery in the worst way and hunters need to be careful when looking at cheap hunts and all the false promises. All those fancy web sites with exaggerated claims and promises need to be carefully validated and the first thing hunters need to do is know who they are dealing with. Today with the Internet and the information available on everyone and anyone – a quick goggle search on Sammy Cantafio for example will immediately show you who I am, what I have done and what I represent – now try this with others in the outfitting business that you might be considering and see what you might learn of the person and his reputation if you find anything at all - and you will soon realize there is a lot of B--- S--- in this business – BEWARE - LIARS MAY FIGURE BUT FIGURES DON’T LIE – after 34 years of professional outfitting - Sammy Cantafio’s Ungava Adventures is still the # 1 outfit to hunt caribou for the serious hunter.
Need to get supplies ready for Charlie Camp tomorrow so I will let you go. Weather decent today with average temperatures – will get back to you next week.
